Metaphors of Movement Wiki:Contributor guide
This guide describes how to add and maintain reference material in this wiki.
Purpose and scope
The wiki supports students and practitioners with background reading. Keep factual reference material, story summaries and commentary clearly identified. Practitioner instructions and claims about the Metaphors of Movement model need attribution to the owner's published material and editorial review.
Choose a page type
- Template:Topic article - physical subjects, images and objects
- Template:Story article - stories, myths and literary works
- Template:Biography article - people and authors
- Template:Collection index - collections of related articles
Open a template to see its instructions. Substitute the template into a new page, then replace every editing prompt before saving. Omit sections that do not fit the subject.
Titles and structure
Use a descriptive title, consistent capitalisation and ordinary words. Avoid numbered alternatives such as a title ending in -2. Use a page move when renaming so the history is preserved, and keep a redirect from the old title. Review overlapping pages before merging them.
The wiki supplies the page title. Start the body with a short introduction and use level-two headings for the main sections. Do not repeat the page title as another level-one heading.
Sources and versions
Cite the source beside the claim or passage it supports. Prefer original works and authoritative sources. Identify the edition or telling used for a story summary. Keep observations about the story separate from its events. Add image descriptions and attribution where applicable.
Every article should belong to at least one suitable category from Category:Wiki contents. More than one subject may apply. Choose useful broad categories before inventing narrowly used ones.
Add a Related pages section with a few meaningful links, and a route back to the relevant subject or collection. Link the new page from an appropriate browsing page or related article. Check each destination before publishing. Use plain text when a peripheral name does not need its own wiki article.
Writing and review
Use plain language and follow the owner's current wording rules. Use commas, colons, parentheses or separate sentences instead of long dash punctuation. Avoid a generic closing summary section. Finish with sources and useful onward links where appropriate.
Preview before saving. Check headings, links, categories, quotations and source attribution. Write an edit summary that states what changed.
