Atmospheres
One area where idioms are particularly prominent is in the description of atmospheric conditions. Whether it is the charged energy of an electric atmosphere or the oppressive weight of a tense atmosphere, idioms of atmospheres enable us to describe the intangible and subjective aspects of our environment with a remarkable degree of precision.
Trainees of Metaphors of Movement should note that the atmosphere sits atop the landscape and may be boundaried (such as inside a container) or unboundaried (open space) and on a continuum between limited (i.e. a patch of fog) and unlimited (infinite in all directions).
