The Video Library is a subject index to the recordings embedded in this wiki. Follow an article link to watch the video with its introduction, related reading and sources. The recording links also open the original YouTube upload.
Recordings come from the authors, foundations, universities, museums, public agencies and established educational publishers identified beside each entry. A publisher's authority is relevant to its subject: a weather explanation supplies physical background, while an author's lecture presents that author's account. Neither establishes a universal meaning for an image.
The index covers 52 embedded recordings, checked on 7 October 2026. Titles, channels and running times identify the selected uploads. Availability and captions may change.
Choosing a recording
- For a first introduction, begin with James Geary on metaphor or Jane Hirshfield on literary metaphor.
- For an extended theoretical presentation, try Mark Turner's university lecture or George Lakoff on embodied cognition.
- For Campbell speaking about his work, use the Joseph Campbell Foundation entries below and read the article's context alongside the excerpt.
- For a story or image, choose its subject section, then compare the recording with the article's named sources or editions.
Use the glossary for unfamiliar terms and the reading record to note a claim, timestamp and question. Introductory talks, archival excerpts and research lectures serve different purposes. A selected video complements the article; it does not replace the cited evidence.
Language, meaning and communication
Joseph Campbell and comparative mythology
Most entries in this section are Joseph Campbell Foundation recordings. The British Museum film linked from the Goddess article provides a curator's account of its own subject; it is not a recording of Campbell. For books, excerpts and official audio, see Joseph Campbell: Reading and Listening Guide.
Stories, literature and storytelling
Images in myth and the natural world
This section includes scientific explanations and story presentations. The article introduction explains which kind of context each supplies.
