In this story, Jonah is a prophet who is instructed by God to preach to the people of Nineveh. Jonah disobeys and boards a ship to escape. In this story, King Manu is warned about the impending flood and builds a boat, which the fish (Vishnu) guides to safety and eventually swallows. The boat becomes a refuge for all of the world's creatures and Manu is saved.

"Pinocchio" is a timeless tale that has been adapted into various forms of media, including films, TV shows, and theater productions. It remains a beloved story for children and adults alike, and continues to be an important part of our cultural heritage.

In the original "Pinocchio" story by Collodi, the character of Pinocchio is swallowed by a giant whale.

The following is a detailed description of that scene:

Pinocchio finds himself on a ship with a group of boys who have also been turned into donkeys by the Coachman. The ship is eventually capsized by a giant whale, and Pinocchio finds himself swallowed by the whale. Inside the whale's belly, Pinocchio encounters a school of small fish who ask him how he got there. Pinocchio explains his situation to the fish, who respond:

"''Poor boy! How did you fall into the hands of the assassins who take boys to the Island of Fun''?"

As Pinocchio awaits his fate inside the whale, he reflects on his actions and the lessons he has learned. He realizes that his disobedience and misbehavior have led him to this dangerous situation, and he vows to be a better person.

In the end, Pinocchio is eventually freed from the whale by the help of the Blue Fairy, who uses her magic to shrink the whale and allow Pinocchio to escape. The scene inside the whale's belly is an important turning point in the story, as it serves as a symbol of the consequences of Pinocchio's actions and a reminder of the importance of responsibility and self-reflection.

==Jonah==

The story of Jonah from the Bible is a fascinating and thought-provoking tale that has captivated readers and scholars for centuries. It is a narrative that speaks to the themes of obedience, mercy, and the divine plan.

The book of Jonah is a short prophetic work found in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. It tells the story of a prophet named Jonah who is commanded by God to go to the city of Nineveh and warn its people of their impending doom. However, Jonah is hesitant to do so and instead attempts to flee from God's presence by boarding a ship bound for Tarshish.

As the ship sails away, God sends a great storm that threatens to capsize the vessel. The sailors on board are terrified and each begins to pray to their own gods for deliverance. Meanwhile, Jonah sleeps below deck, oblivious to the danger around him. When the captain discovers Jonah's presence, he urges him to join in the prayers for salvation.

Eventually, the sailors realize that Jonah is the cause of the storm and they throw him overboard in a desperate attempt to appease the angry gods. But instead of drowning, Jonah is swallowed by a great fish that God has sent to save him. For three days and three nights, Jonah languishes inside the fish, praying for mercy and forgiveness.

Finally, God commands the fish to spit Jonah out onto the shore. With a renewed sense of purpose, Jonah travels to Nineveh and delivers his message of doom to the people there. Surprisingly, the Ninevites listen to Jonah and repent of their sins. God sees their contrition and decides to spare them from destruction.

This turn of events angers Jonah, who had wanted to see the Ninevites punished for their wickedness. He complains to God, saying that he had known all along that God was merciful and would forgive the Ninevites if they repented. Jonah's words reveal his own lack of compassion and understanding, as he cannot see beyond his own desires for justice.

The book of Jonah ends with God rebuking Jonah for his narrow-mindedness and reminding him that all of his creations are worthy of mercy and compassion. The story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of obedience to God's will, even when it goes against our own desires. It also teaches us the value of forgiveness and the dangers of being too judgmental.

==Jonah as Bad Luck Metaphor==

[[File:Bad-luck-jonah.png|400px|right]]The character of Jonah from the Bible has been used as a metaphor for bad luck or as a symbol of unfortunate circumstances in various contexts outside of religious literature. This metaphorical use of the story of Jonah has been particularly prevalent in the fields of literature, film, and popular culture.

One example of this metaphorical use of Jonah as a symbol of bad luck can be seen in the novel "The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie. In the novel, one of the main characters, Saladin Chamcha, is transformed into a goat-like creature and ends up being cast into the sea during a shipwreck. This event is seen as a direct parallel to the story of Jonah and has been interpreted as a symbol of Chamcha's unfortunate circumstances.

Another example can be seen in the 1995 film "Waterworld," in which the main character, played by Kevin Costner, is referred to as "the Mariner." The Mariner is a lone survivor in a post-apocalyptic world that has been submerged by water. He is seen by the other characters in the film as a symbol of bad luck, as anyone who comes into contact with him seems to meet with unfortunate circumstances.

The character of Jonah has also been used in popular culture as a metaphor for bad luck. For example, in the world of sports, a player who seems to bring bad luck to their team is often referred to as a "Jonah." This term is particularly common in cricket, where a player who is dismissed for a duck (i.e., scoring no runs) is sometimes referred to as a "Jonah."
